Long May She Wave (a class piece) and A Child's Prayer by Barbara

Thank you to everyone who sent Tom birthday greetings yesterday. He was really surprised to receive so many nice notes from all over the world! (He got notes from the US, Canada, UK, Italy, France, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Wales, Greece, and Ghana!)

Recently I received some photos from Barbara Haberly in Georgia. The first photo was taken at an exhibit her sampler guild, the Magnolia Sampler Guild, had just a few weeks ago at Bulloch Hall.

Barbara wrote, "Our exhibit was at Bulloch Hall again. It is every other year in the odd year. We had about 150 pieces on display and it was a lovely exhibit. Bulloch Hall is the childhood home of Mittie Bulloch who became the mother of Teddy Roosevelt. It is maintained as a historic home/museum by the City of Roswell and the Magnolia Sampler Guild is a supporting guild to the home. We stitch items for their gift shop and share the proceeds from the sale with them."

The photo below is of some patriotic pieces. Barbara's little flag needlebook, Long May She Wave, is on the far right. This is a class piece I taught a few years ago for The Sampler Guild of Georgia.

Barbara is is very fond of samplers and their history and is lucky enough to have two wonderful sampler guilds nearby. In fact, she is currently the president of the Magnolia Sampler Guild.

Barbara also sent me a photo of A Child's Prayer she stitched for her great niece. It looks like she has stitched an inscription at the bottom, under the grassy area.

A Child's Prayer has been popular to stitch as a gift, be it for a child or for an adult. I was delighted when my cousin Nancy stitched it as a gift for her parents (my Aunt Frances and Uncle Jack) last year for Christmas; Aunt Frances had seen a photo of my model the previous spring when I was visiting them in Virginia and had commented how much she liked it.

Well, I'm off to pick up my Mary Wigham sampler from Carol, my local framer and dear friend, and to pick out a frame for My Lady's Quaker that I showed a few weeks ago (September 9th, if you want to look it up) on the blog.
