Seeing red!

Shop owner Ann McDonald recently sent me some photos of Sharon's lovely Mrs. Waddelow's Huswif. Sharon is a customer of Ann's shop, Knowledge and Needles, in Brighton, Canada. I almost fell off my chair when I saw Sharon's striking version stitched on RED linen!!

The first photo shows her closed huswif and the little needlebook.

Here is Sharon's huswif opened up so you can get a better view of how striking her version is on the red linen.

And here is a view of the inside. It looks like Sharon had lots of fun choosing fabrics!
Sharon stitched her huswif and needlebook on Zweigart's 32-count Victorian Christmas Red linen with Splendor S1012, Waterlilies Cameo, and Waterlilies Golden Grains. It's quite a striking combination, don't you think?

Ann told me that Sharon and her husband, who are retired, moved several years ago from a large city near Toronto to Brighton where Ann's shop is. Brighton is a rural community of 5000. Ann also wrote that Sharon "loves to stitch and belongs to the Quinte Needle Arts Guild, in nearby Belleville. She is very good to try out all the new techniques they offer classes on but cross stitch is her true love."

Thanks, Ann and Sharon, for sharing such a lovely version of Mrs. Waddelow's Huswif!

Lovely! Isn't it amazing what a difference a change of colors can make, but still be as beautiful as the original?!

That is so absolutely gorgeous! Red linen is beautiful. I just finished a scissor fob with red but this looks like a deeper red than the Aztec red linen I used. Both are pretty. The gold contrast colors she picked are awesome!

Beautiful!! must be quite difficult to stitch on a dark colour but the result is stunning to say the least :))

This is absolutely beautiful! What is it about red, be it thread or linen, that makes needlework stunning? Sharon does gorgeous work!
