Needlework Captured in Paint

Amsterdam, the "Venice of the North", was the final stop on our cruise.

What a thrill it was to once again visit the incredible Rijksmuseum! (The name "Rijksmuseum" in English means the "State Museum".)  This museum has existed for over 200 years.  A major renovation began about 10 years ago and was recently finished.

The photos I'm showing you today focus on the beautiful embellished clothing worn by both women and men.  I find the attention to detail shown by the painters absolutely amazing!   I'll first show you a photo of a painting in its entirety, and then I'll show you some close-ups focusing on the needlework in the painting.

All of this is paint, but it certainly reflects the needlework of the day.  In my next blog post I'll show you a few embroidered pieces, also from the Rijksmuseum.

I got chills looking at all the details of the needleworks. I can't get over that they were painted. They look like the fabrics are right there even in close up views. And the lace work - wow. Incredible.
Great photos again - Thank you Tom:)
love Annette
