Quaker Needlework Treasures by Laura, Robbin, and Christiane!

Over the past few weeks I've been sharing photos with you of some of the Quaker projects I've designed. Today I want to show you my first Quaker design, Quaker Needlework Treasures. The motifs on this project are original, but I was inspired by traditional Quaker motifs.

The project has three pieces: a small needlecase with a pincushion and a needlepage on the inside, a scissors weight, and a carrying or stitching bag. The needlecase, when closed, is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. The bag is large enough to hold the needlecase and lots of needlework tools.

I stitched my model (shown on the right) using cross stitch over one linen thread, backstitch, and nun's stitch. If you want a larger needlecase, why not stitch this case over two linen threads instead of over one?

The first photos are from Laura Guinard. Didn't she do a lovely job on the sewing case and carrying bag?

The next photo is from Robbin Douglas of Massachusetts. Robbin wrote, "I love your sets of stitching accessories. Quaker Needlework Treasures is the first chart of yours that I worked and the first large amount of over one stitching that I did.

"I love this piece, and I'll admit that it doesn't look as neat as it did in this picture. It goes with me to stitching events and has even been on trips with me. The bag is great because in addition to all of the stitched accessories I have the little pieces you see that a friend made for me (I made the fob) which all match so nicely and she didn't know about the bag. I also carry other scissors for cutting metallics, a small box for threads, a laying tool, a tape measure, a pen--all purple except the laying tool!"

The last photos are from Christiane B. from Germany. She lives in a small village between Trier and Frankfort. As you can tell, Christiane likes lots of color!

Christiane wrote, "I stitched this project in 2006 and had a lot of fun. Most time I stitch for others, but this was especially for me. I used a thread that I felt in love with. (It's from Tentakulum, a German manufacturer). I took it with me to summer holiday and had a relaxing time stitching at the beach. I love to use it!"

Hello Ellen,

I just found your blog and website via the Mary Stitch Along. I love your patterns. Will be looking at stitching your Quaker Samplings after I am finished with Mary.

This design is still on my "to do list" - loving stitching all the completed versions of this design and all the others - it's a real treat for the eyes! :D
