One day to go

Here's another update from Tom...

Ellen's back surgery is tomorrow. We're optimistic and looking forward to it, and to relief for Ellen.

Her pre-surgery testing last week included an EKG, and that revealed an "irregularity" in the electrical signals in Ellen's heart. Neither the neurosurgeon nor the family practitioner would approve going ahead with the back surgery without someone else saying it was okay, so Monday we went to see a cardiologist.

We were expecting him to tell us all was okay, but he was uncomfortable doing so without more testing (and another day of uncertainty for us). So, Ellen had a stress test Tuesday (today) morning. This was a nuclear stress test, no treadmill necessary, but it was still an ordeal for Ellen because there was only a reclining chair for her to sit in most of the time, not a bed. At the end they just left her on the camera table while the doctor evaluated the results since the table was the most comfortable place in the facility. Fortunately, she passed, and the back surgery is on as originally scheduled! It appears that abnormal is normal for Ellen! (I'm just joking, of course. It turns out I have a similar irregularity, and, in talking to several friends about this, about a third of them claim they have EKG irregularities too. Ellen will tell you I'm quite abnormal in many other ways as well.)

Many thanks to all of you who have sent messages, cards, and prayers. All have been great for Ellen's spirit. More soon...
