A new start on January 1st?

Are you one of those people who likes to start a new project on the first day of the new year?

I must admit that I only learned of this custom a few years ago. This year some needleworkers are adding a new twist--starting a new project on each of the first 15 days of 2011. Yikes!! I know that's not for me!! I already have way too many WIPs. I think I can handle one new start but not 15.

I've been trying to think of a project to begin on January 1st. I think I've settled on the Ada Mary Hornsey sampler, one that I'm reproducing. The sampler is charted and the threads and linen chosen so I should be be ready to start. I'll show you some photos shortly.

Meanwhile, I'll continue work on the Elizabeth Mears sampler from Queenstown Sampler Designs. I'm about half way done. I'll try to post some photos in a few days.

What will you be working on on January 1st as you start the new year?

I might, if I have the time, but I have so many things to finish that I don't feel like I should! We have a new baby here, so stitching hasn't been easy. I've been knitting more, because it's something I can do while nursing.

Oh I can't wait to see! I think I'm starting an online Merry Cox class piece for Jan. 1. And I need to continue with my current project too. Can't wait to see Elizabeth and your new project!

I'll be starting the new year with the Blackbird Anniversaries of the Heart Series...one block per month while juggling Mary Wigham. Slowly plugging along on that one. Can't wait to see your progress pics. Happy New Year!

A new year of needlework is exciting! I was going to start a new project, but I have decided to pull out two of my WIPs instead and work on those. They are Heart and Hand by Ewe Eye & Friends and Fishing Lady by Little by Little. I'm also going to be stitching an ornament a month with a group of online friends. Can't wait!

It was such a thrill to see your Elizabeth Mears in progress. I was impressed and while I am still waiting for her to arrive - I feel it will be soon maybe even today and can start with the SAL on the newsletter group. I am doing that crazy challenge of 15 projects but in a modified form suggested by our friend TeresaB and hope to post my list later. Wishing you and your family good health and much happiness in 2011. Cheers Mel

What a fun idea to start a new project. I just went to the local stitching store and bought supplies for 5 projects (since they were having a semi-annual sale!!!) My goal was to finish a few more unfinished projects before I actually started these new ones---HMMMM. Choices are Sweet Liberty by Cherished stitches or 272 words by Primrose. The other projects are smaller projects and I know I don't want to start any more of those!!
I actually finished stitching 22 projects this year. Most of them are finished also... That beat my record for completed projects in a year!!
The problem is, I found MANY more that have been added to the wish lists!!!

My January 1 project will be "The North Wind" by Little House Needleworks. I picked it in honor of the unusually cold weather we're having, and because it has my name in it! Now, to find enough light to actually SEE the fabric here at my boyfriend's house!

I am going to have some new starts along with working on some WIP's this year. I worked on CHS Alphabet as it is close to being finished and I am at that point where I just want to work on it until it is finished. I decided no real rule this year as my stitching time is so limited. I am hoping to work on the Blackbird Anniversaries of the heart SAL, I am waiting for fabric for Mrs. Waddelow's Huswife and basket and then the hope is to do some ornament stitching. I was able to get some finishing fabric for the huswife so now I just need the linen for stitching. I will continue to try to whittle down the WIP pile.
