Spending time with Elizabeth...

My time with Elizabeth Mears has certainly become addictive! I have a hard time being away from her.

Here is my progress as of last night. The sampler is much prettier in "real life" than it appears here. I used the thread and linen colors that Barbara specified on the chart. I'm afraid that the colors in my photo need a little "tweeking".
I've temporarily put Elizabeth aside to work on a new model, but I'm looking forward to spending time again with her in the not too distant future.

We're looking forward to our annual New Year's Day dinner of black-eyed peas with ham hocks served on a bed of rice. We'll make some cornbread too. This year we're using a new recipe--Tom's brother's recipe which is cooked in a cast iron skillet.

Don't forget to eat your black-eyed peas today so you too will have lots of luck during the coming year. Did you know that Cracker Barrel restaurant serves them to everyone on New Year's Day--even if you don't order them. Guess they figure that everyone should have some today.

Hope that the new year is off to a terrific start for you!!

I can see why you don't want to put her down, she is gorgeous!
Your supper sounds yummy, we do a variation blackeyed peas and "dirty sausage rice" with sauted cabbage on the side (for good fortune)
I love Cracker Barrel ;)

Blessings to you and yours, Ellen

Your New Year's dinner sounds great! Always, but always cook cornbread in a cast iron skillet!
We had pork chops, turnip greens, purple hull
peas (not really fond of black-eyed peas!), and
cornbread!
Wishing everyone a Happy 2011!

Ellen - it was fun seeing Haiden having his christmas at your house and visiting the unusual exhibits in your area. I know you loved having them home for the holidays. Your Elizabeth is really coming along - I rec'd my chart and linen on 12/31 - I took your advice and went with the 32ct linen - need to plunder thru my NPS stash and see how many colors I have on hand. I made Paula Deen's Spicy Black Eyed Pea recipe and served over rice and mustard greens which were perfect this time and jody smoked a pork butt - it was unseasonably warm here in the 70's so we had a nice day on the patio. can't wait to see your new repro. Happy New Year! Mel
