Not 1, not 2, but 3 Acorn Sampler/Sewing Cases!

What terrific timing to have received photos of three Acorn Sampler/Sewing Cases while those of us in the northern hemisphere are enjoying fall. This is such a beautiful time of year as the leaves are changing colors--reds, yellows, and oranges. Against this beautiful array of colors, squirrels are scurrying around gathering acorns in anticipation of the winter ahead.

First is Tedra's
Acorn Sampler Sewing Case before it was assembled. Tedra, who is from Arizona, wrote, I have stitched mine with the fibers called for on 32-count Mockingbird linen from R & R that I had in my stash - it's very similar to the Autumn Gold by Lakeside Linens.

Look at the cute acorn charms Tedra added to her piece.
Tedra, please send me some more photos when you get your huswif assembled. Knowing you, it's probably already done by now.

Next is Anne S.'s project, beautifully matted and framed. Anne, who lives in southern Illinois, stitched her sampler on
35-count Roasted Crown linen, which she thinks is from R & R.

Anne wrote, The floss colors seem to sparkle on the linen. I loved the design when I first saw it.
I finished it as a sampler because I already have quite a collection of acorn "smalls". The sampler is worked on a ground some years ago; the verse and acorn border are lovely. The pattern, linen and flosses have been in my stash just waiting for the right time...guess this was the year!
And last, but certainly not least, is Janet's project finished as a sewing case. Janet lives in the Boston area and is a member of the Mayflower Sampler Guild.

Janet wrote, I spent a wonderful Saturday with some of my Mayflower Sampler Guild friends traveling to a shop in Brattleboro, VT, named Delectable Mountain. They have some of the most delectable silk fabric that can be found anywhere. They are very willing to cut fabric in small pieces whether it be half the width of the bolt or the full width. This may have been my first trip there but it will not be my last. I am so very pleased with my Acorn Sampler Sewing Case.

Janet added, I entered my case into competition at the Topsfield Fair and won "Best In Show" for the Home Arts Division. I was shocked as I have entered many items over the past 10 or so years and have taken several blue ribbons but this is my very first Best In Show.Look at the wonderful checked dupioni silk Janet found to line her case. Janet, I love your fabric choice!! I think I need to find some checked dupioni silk myself.

Thanks Tedra, Anne, and Janet for sharing photos of your beautiful work. I love to see the creative ideas that needleworkers have! It's wonderful to see how each of you took this project and made changes to make it "your own". I'm sure that all three of you have inspired others.
