Happy May Day!

May 1st always brings back memories from my childhood of leaving flowers on the doorsteps of friends and neighbors and quickly running way before they could see us.  Also at my small  parochial school, there was a May Day celebration.  How exciting it was to be in the sixth grade and be chosen to dance around the May Pole wearing a special dress and holding the end of a large ribbon.

Today I won't be dancing around the May Pole, but perhaps I will stitch some flowers to celebrate the arrival of the lovely month of May!!  I hope that you too can find some time to enjoy our shared passion of needlework.

By now you may be "wedding-ed out", but just in case you're not I thought that I would share a couple of sites that describe Catherine's lovely gown.   Beautiful lace motifs of roses, thistles, daffodils, and shamrocks were made by  members of the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court and then appliqued in place.  Check out these sites to read more--Official Royal Wedding 2011, Royal Wedding Images, Catherine's Wedding Dress, and Embroiderers.

Hi Ellen! I just did a search and found Ann Pennsylvania Peacock and love what you did with it/the tribute to your mom, but "stitched by her daughter" was just right :) Mary W was beautiful too also a wip of mine, but want to put some stitches in Ann tonight. thanks for the reminder. and thanks for your prayers and concern for our area of the world right now.
